As we go through life, we may not realize that everything we do has a cause and effect. Even though we may think that we have won the first battle because we got away, that doesn’t necessarily mean we are out of Harm’s Way.

As we grow in our own identities, we have absorbed things from the people that we depend on to show us how we should live. Good habits, bad habits, and some negative traits – traditionally known as generational curses – are often passed down for so long that they seem like the norm and forever go unaddressed.

In some cases, the abuse and uncomfortable behavior is talked about throughout the family but never confronted in order to bring about real change...until it’s too late.

Until we face our demons, speak out against family curses, and bring about change in order to educate ourselves, our families, and our communities, we will never be out of Harm’s Way.

About The Author

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, by way of the small town of Estill, South Carolina, Marilyn Jennings is the proud mother of two. She’s a passionate advocate against domestic violence due to the unexpected death of her younger sister, Clara Riddles.

As Marilyn overcomes and learns to accept the loss of her little sister (whom she adored, nurtured, and protected from domestic violence within their own home), she continues to find healing through her volunteer work with The Ladies of My Sister’s Keeper-Atlanta, Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV), and the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Using her Harm’s Way Organization, she goes into the community as an activist and advocate to speak up for women so they will not end up like her sister. Through the creation of a series of Clara’s Voice Community Awareness walks and events, Marilyn is on a mission to break bondages that continue to reign in families and communities.
